The Clinic provides legal advice in in all areas of International Human Rights Law. Projects can regard litigation cases before regional human rights courts (ECtHR, IACtHR, AFCHPR) and quasi-judicial procedures before UN Treaty Bodies as well as litigation, arbitration or mediation efforts before other human rights institutions. The Clinic also provides legal advice in the form of research projects which deliver reports or expert opinions on practical Human Rights issues in collaboration with NGOs.

Examples for thematic areas of projects are:

• Human Rights in the context of climate change
• Business and Human Rights
• Human Rights of migrants and refugees
• Human Rights in the digital age
• Human Rights and sanctions / counter-terrorism measures
• Human Rights and sport
• Human Rights in the context of investment protection

The Human Rights Clinic will accept cases and projects based on available capacity, and the type of legal dispute. Depending on the complexity of the case, time-limits will play an elevated role in our selection process.

The cooperation begins with an (online) meeting between the practicioners/lawyers involved and the coordinators of the Clinic. We will discuss the possibilities of a cooperation that fits your needs and demands while providing the best learning opportunity for our student participants.

During the project, a team of students will work on the case under intensive supervision of the human rights experts at the CHREN. Client practicioners/lawyers will receive updates on a regular basis. To help our students achieve the highest possible learning outcomes, we ask our project partners to participate in regular feedback sessions.

• A summary of the facts of the case or projects, including the legal proceedings (if applicable)
• A summary of the legal question(s) that arise from these facts
• The type of advice the Clinic can provide for you
• The time-limits of the case or project and when the Clinic project should be finalised

Please note that the Human Rights Clinic does not act as the legal representative of a victim of human rights violations, does not initiate proceedings before courts or other human rights institutions and can not help with filing application forms or other formal documents.
