Workshop on „Human Rights in Practice”

The CHREN Human Rights Clinic hosted a workshop on “Human Rights in Practice” on 15 and 16 November. The seminar, held by Professor Patricia Wiater, gave an introduction to the work of the Clinic and the various mechanisms through which human rights are enforced in practice. The workshop included sessions on human rights litigation, arbitration, mediation and advocacy and spanned across thematic contexts of climate law, sport, investment, business & human rights, and others.

The seminar was open to all interested FAU-students, including students from fields other than law. There were no prerequisites and no prior experience is expected. The workshop was an ideal opportunity for those building foundational skills for future Human Rights Clinic projects.

    Lecture on „Design Thinking“

The CHREN Human Rights Clinic hosted a lecture on „Design Thinking“. It was organized in the context of a Clinic project collaboration with the Business & Human Rights Resource Centre, but the invitation did not just extend to the student team of that project but to all of you! The lecture provided input and important learnings for advocacy related projects in general.

Design Thinking is a human-centered problem-solving approach that emphasizes collaboration, creativity, and experimentation. It is widely used to tackle complex challenges in fields such as public services, technology, and social innovation.
This lecture aimed to explore how Design Thinking can be applied in the practice of human rights advocacy. By providing innovative tools to rethink and redesign systems, it enables organizations to effectively engage stakeholders and co-create solutions that uphold and advance human rights.

The lecture happened on the 4th of December, online, at 6 p.m. (18:00).

The lecture was held by Dr. Gisele Raulik Murphy, a Brazilian designer with a PhD in public policies for design and innovation. She has worked on design promotion programs across South America and Europe and has collaborated with organizations such as Centro Brasil Design, Design Council (UK), and Design Wales (UK), where she led the EU-funded SEE Project, fostering policy expertise in design and innovation.
